Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was a speaker, investor, and businesswoman from the United States. The Corcoran Group was a New York City real estate brokerage she established. NRT purchased it for $66 million in 2001. Corcoran soon exited the company. Corcoran was among the original Shark Tank investors. She has appeared in every season of ABC's Shark Tank. Corcoran had signed 53 contracts in February, 2020. The biggest deal she signed was her investment of $350,000 into Coverplay with a 40% stake. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second child of ten from a working-class Irish Catholic family. Florence Corcoran's mom, was a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was a mover between jobs and the next throughout Corcoran’s childhood. Her family often relied on the free food delivery from a friendly local supermarket. Corcoran recalls her father, a man who sometimes drank excessively, and behaved towards her mother disrespectfully and condescendingly, particularly after he'd had several drinks. Corcoran was struggling in school, and was later told she was dyslexic. She went to an area Catholic elementary school, and then began the high school system at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. After flunking several courses during her first year, Corcoran transferred to Leonia High School and was a D-student when she graduated.
